Leisure at 6th Batch OSTI

13.04.2018
A great moment for the trainees of 6th Batch OSTI friends. Having a short relief from routine life in training, all enjoyed with a delicious lunch, Music Chair, Dance etc. This was a forum for grooming of hidden talents of girls on dance floor. This was a great opportunity for all to know each other and share their feelings. The credit goes to the organisor Illap Kumar, Sudhir, Lokanath, Chinmay and others who spent their valuable time for making this party successful. Although majority girls are there in this batch, their participation was a big contribution for this celebration. Really it was a great pleasure for all.

Why You Get Income Tax Notices

1. Due to TDS
You may be slapped with a notice by the department if there is any mismatch in the amount of TDS which you have shown in your return and the actual TDS that has been deducted during the year. For example, In case, your employer forgot to file TDS return but the same amount is shown in your income tax return then there arises a situation of mismatch.
While filing your return always make sure that the amount in form 26-AS matches with the amount you show in your return.
2. Mismatch of information in the return filed by you
If you make a mistake while filing your income tax return then be prepared for a notice. Mistakes can vary from filing incomplete information, claiming deduction under the wrong section or missing out on any specific income ignored completely.
3. Random Scrutiny
The IT Department selects many returns randomly for scrutiny while processing the returns. Upon receiving these scrutiny notices, don’t panic and read the notice thoroughly and do the needful within the time stipulated in the notice.
4.Ignoring income received from the previous employer
In case you’re wondering that you can smartly deceive IT Department by not mentioning the income received from the previous employer, then you’re wrong. IT Department can easily find it out from your Form 26-AS as it contains all the details of TDS deducted by your employer during the year.So don’t think of indulging in these types of practices instead save your taxes by smart tax planning.
5. Not depositing the full amount of tax assessed before the due date
You’ll be served with a notice by the IT Department if you do not pay the full amount of tax payable before the due date specified by the IT Department. For example, if your tax liability is of Rs. 20,000 and you only pay Rs. 16,000 by the due date then be prepared to tackle a notice.
6. Income Tax Return not filed or filed after the due date
You can receive a notice from IT Department for not filing a return if you haven’t filed your return yet. The follow-up task is very simple, just check if you’re required by law to file the return, if yes then just file your return and your problem is solved but you might have to pay penalty and interest at the rate 1% per month.
7. High-Value Transactions
For all the high-value transactions that you enter into with some entity or individuals, you higher your chances of getting a notice from IT Department. Following transactions can be classified as high-value transactions:
  • Cash deposits in bank aggregating to Rs. 10 lacs or more.
  • Payment via credit card of Rs. 2 lacs or more.
  • Investment in mutual funds of Rs. 2 lacs or more.
  • Investment in debenture or bonds in a company of Rs. 5 lacs or more.
  • Investment in shares of a company of Rs. 1 lac or more.

Renovations in education system

Bhubaneswar: Individuals aspiring for teaching posts in government schools will soon have to face a competitive exam and interview to crack the job, School and Mass Education secretary Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra informed Thursday.

Like Post Graduate Teachers (PGT) for Plus II colleges are recruited through the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC), teachers for secondary schools will now be recruited through a competitive examination to be conducted by the Odisha Staff Selection Commission (OSSC), Mohapatra said following a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi at the state Secretariat here.
He further said government-run elementary, secondary and higher secondary schools functioning within 100 metres of each other in a particular area will have one headmaster for Classes 1 to X. The schools will be grouped for this purpose; currently we have identified 4,100 such schools, Mohapatra said.

The transfer system too will go online to make the process more transparent. To bolster the professional ability of teachers, the government has planned regular training programmes. In the first programme, the government has planned to train around 1.75 lakh teachers between April 17 and May 5, for which 25 experts of the State Resource Group will be imparted orientation programmes, the School and Mass Education secretary informed. Meanwhile, at the meeting the state government prepared a two-year roadmap for the project Sustainable Action for Transforming Human Capital (SATH).

Mohapatra said the recruitment process for 14,000 elementary teachers is over. The newly-recruited teachers are expected to join during April, 2018. It was decided in the meeting that the development of an online data-driven teacher-student rationalisation system is essential. It was also decided that the process for recruitment of secondary teachers as per requirement should be initiated.

Director OPEPA Bhupindarsingh Punia proposed modifications in three programmes – Ujjwal, Uttthan and Utkarsh. The modified Ujjwal would focus on equipping students from Classes I to V with basic skills in Odia, mathematics and English. The programme Utthan would focus on equipping students of Class VI to VIII with grade- level skills in these 3 subjects. Similarly, the modified Utkarsh would focus on improving the skills and knowledge base of students of Class IX.

Learning Camps would be conducted on a mission mode in all primary and upper primary classes from July 18 to 31. During the campaign a whole day would be devoted to remediation skills. No new syllabus would be introduced.

The meeting also finalised 15 action points. The basic objectives of these action points are fixing basics in schools, ensuring equality of access to education in different regions, strengthening assessment mechanism, conducting structured review at all levels within the frame of accountability, award and incentives, capacity building and management of information system.
