Youth dies of electrocution on newly inaugurated Flyover In Bhubaneswar

23 August, 2018
A youth died of electrocution after coming in contact with electricity wires used for light decoration on the newly-inaugurated rail-over bridge at Lingaraj Road in Pokhariput area of Bhubaneswar today. The deceased has been identified as Seemanchal Panda, who was immediately rushed to Capital Hospital where doctors declared him dead. According to sources, the youth was trying to pluck balloons tied to the electricity pole when he came in contact with high-voltage wires. “The man was trying to pluck balloons and that’s when he came in contact with the high-voltage wires and collapsed on the spot. I found two children crying near him so I dropped them at their home and informed the family members of the deceased,” an eyewitness, Madhav Bartia said.
Soon after the incident the Chief Minister expressed his condolences for the bereaved family and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh for the kin of the deceased.
Earlier this evening, the bridge was inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. Sources said that the decoration work was done by the Public Works Department.
