Mass Protest Successful : OSSA

29th August, 2018
As per scheduled Mass Protest called by Odisha Secretariat Service Association, a good number of OSS officers were gathered in Panchayatiraj Lawn. The elected members discussed about the progress of our demands at Government level. This was a demonstration to show our strength to Government with a warning that, if no demands will be fulfilled in future, then different alternative steps may be taken by the association.

Debu Bose, Actor passed away

Veteran Odia actor Debu Bose died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Hyderabad, family sources said here on Thursday. He died on Wednesday night at the age of 75. According to local publications, Debu Bose had suffered two cardiac arrests in the past and was undergoing treatment for the past four months. He was also put on ventilator for sometime. Born in 1942, Debu Bose started his career with the film Tapasya in the 1980s. The actor has over 120 movies to his credit spanning over four decades.
Having worked extensively in Odia films and television, he was the favourite onscreen ‘father’ for viewers. Some of his prominent works include Pua Moro Kala Thakura, Samay Kheluchhi Chaka Bhaunri, Ki Heba Sua Posile, Phula Chandana and Suna Chadhei. Bose was also a dancer and a choreographer, having received training from renowned Odissi dancer Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. The actor was also a theatre exponent. During his association with the regional theatre group Diganta, Bose had also directed several plays. Bose’s last film was 2014 Odia movie Raasta.

Kuldip Nayar, Journalist passed away

Kuldip Nayar (14 August 1923 – 23 August 2018) was a Indian journalist, syndicated columnist, human right activist, author and ex-High commissioner of India to United kingdom noted for his long career as a left-wing political commentator. He was also nominated as a Member of the Upper House of the Indian Parliament in 1997. 
At 12:30 am on Thursday, the veteran journalist, and editor – who turned 95 on August 14 – passed away at Escorts Hospital. A former editor at The Indian Express, Nayar was a staunch supporter of the freedom of the press and fiercely opposed the Emergency.

Youth dies of electrocution on newly inaugurated Flyover In Bhubaneswar

A youth died of electrocution after coming in contact with electricity wires used for light decoration on the newly-inaugurated rail-over bridge at Lingaraj Road in Pokhariput area of Bhubaneswar today. The deceased has been identified as Seemanchal Panda, who was immediately rushed to Capital Hospital where doctors declared him dead. According to sources, the youth was trying to pluck balloons tied to the electricity pole when he came in contact with high-voltage wires. “The man was trying to pluck balloons and that’s when he came in contact with the high-voltage wires and collapsed on the spot. I found two children crying near him so I dropped them at their home and informed the family members of the deceased,” an eyewitness, Madhav Bartia said.
Soon after the incident the Chief Minister expressed his condolences for the bereaved family and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh for the kin of the deceased.
Earlier this evening, the bridge was inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. Sources said that the decoration work was done by the Public Works Department.

Kerala to Odisha : Special train for victims


To facilitat the evacuation of stranded flood victims from Kerala to Odisha, one special train will be run between Bhubaneswar - Ernakulam - Bhubaneswar, according to a press release issued here on Tuesday. Train No. 08463 Bhubaneswar - Ernakulam special train will depart from Bhubaneswar at 04:00 hrs on August 23 and arrive Ernakulam at 12:30 hrs on the next day.

In return direction, train no. 08464, Ernakulam - Bhubaneswar special train will depart from Ernakulam at 17:30 hrs on August 24 and arrive Bhubaneswar at 05:45 hrs on the second day. Additional Divisional Railway Managers MVS Rama Raju and G Sumana flagged off VPU (23 tonne parcel van) attached to Dhanabad-Alleppy Express from Vijayawada Station on Tuesday. The materials will be given to the victims of Kerala.
