PM launches India Post Payment Bank
The India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) is a public sector company under the department of posts and ministry of communication with a 100 per cent equity of the government of India, and governed by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
How it will function:
It will focus on providing banking and financial services to people in rural areas, by linking all the 1.55 lakh post office branches (that’s nearly 2.5 times the bank network) with India Post Payments Bank services by the end of 2018. Around 11,000 postmen both in rural and urban areas will provide doorstep banking services.
Additional charge of Chief Engineer (DPI &R)
Shri Bijoy Kumar Pattnaik, Addl. Secretary to Govt., Works Department will remain in charge of Chief Engineer, DPI &Roads.

Banks will remain open and banking activity will continue unimpeded in the first week of September

Banks will only observe holidays on Sunday, 2nd September and second Saturday, 8th September;
Monday, 3rd September is not a pan India holiday

ATMs in all States will be fully functional;
Banks advised to ensure availability of sufficient cash for dispensation from ATMs.

It has come to notice that a rumour is circulating in several sections of the social media that banks will be closed for 6 days in the first week of September 2018, causing undue panic among the general public.
It is hereby clarified that banks will remain open and banking activity will continue unimpeded in the first week of September. Banks will only observe holidays on Sunday, 2nd September and second Saturday, 8th September. Monday, 3rd September is not a pan India holiday and banks only in some States where a holiday is declared under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 will remain closed.
Even on those days, ATMs in all States will be fully functional and there will be no impact on online banking transactions. Banks have been advised to ensure that sufficient cash is available for dispensation from ATMs. Banks will remain open on all other days.

Cabinet approves Revised Cost Estimate for setting up of India Post Payments Bank
Boost to Banking Services at Post Offices across the country

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has given its approval for revision of the project outlay for setting up of India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) from Rs. 800 crore to Rs. 1,435 crore. The additional sum of Rs. 635 crore in the revised cost estimates is on account of Rs 400 crore for Technology Costs and Rs 235 crore for Human Resource Costs.

Details:
- IPPB services shall be available at 650 IPPB branches and 3250 Access Points from 1st September 2018 and in all 1.55 lakh post offices (Access Points) by December 2018.
- The project will generate new employment opportunity for about 3500 skilled banking professionals and other entities engaged in propagating financial literacy across the country.
- The objective of the project is to build the most accessible, affordable and trusted bank for the common man; spearhead the financial inclusion agenda by removing the barriers for the unbanked and reduce the opportunity cost for the under banked populace through assisted doorstep banking.
- The project will supplement Government's vision of "less cash" economy and at the same time promote both economic growth and financial inclusion.
- The robust IT architecture of IPPB has been built taking into consideration bank grade performance, fraud and risk mitigation standards and in line with the best practices from payments & banking domain.
IPPB services:
The IPPB will provide bouquet of payments/financial services through its technology enabled solutions which will be distributed by the Department of Posts (DoP) employees/last mile agents transforming them from mail deliverer to harbinger of financial services.
The IPPB shall pay incentive/commission to the last mile agents ( Postal Staff and Gramin Dak Sewaks) directly in their accounts for providing IPPB services so as to motivate them to promote IPP8 digital services to the customers.
A part of commission to be paid by IPPB to Department of Posts will be used for increasing the wherewithal of Post office.

Dearness Allowance(DA) hiked by 2%
Cabinet approves additional 2 percent Dearness Allowance (DA) for Central Government employees and Dearness Relief (DR) to pensioners w.e.f. 1st July, 2018

The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modihas approved to release an additional instalment of Dearness Allowance (DA) to Central Government employees and Dearness Relief (DR) to pensioners w.e.f. 01.07.2018 representing an increase of 2% over the existing rate of 7% of the Basic Pay/Pension, to compensate for price rise.
The combined impact on the exchequer on account of both Dearness Allowance and Deamess Relief would be Rs.6112.20 crore per annum and Rs.4074.80 crore in the financial year 2018-19 (for a period of 08 months from July, 2018 to February, 2019).
This will benefit about 48.41 lakh Central Government employees and 62.03 lakh pensioners.
This increase is in accordance with the accepted formula, which is based on the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission.

Mass Protest Successful : OSSA
29th August, 2018
As per scheduled Mass Protest called by Odisha Secretariat Service Association, a good number of OSS officers were gathered in Panchayatiraj Lawn. The elected members discussed about the progress of our demands at Government level. This was a demonstration to show our strength to Government with a warning that, if no demands will be fulfilled in future, then different alternative steps may be taken by the association.

Debu Bose, Actor passed away

Veteran Odia actor Debu Bose died while undergoing treatment at
a private hospital in Hyderabad, family sources said here on Thursday.
He died on Wednesday night at the age of 75. According
to local publications, Debu Bose had suffered two cardiac arrests in the past
and was undergoing treatment for the past four months. He was also put on
ventilator for sometime. Born
in 1942, Debu Bose started his career with the film Tapasya in the 1980s. The
actor has over 120 movies to his credit spanning over four decades.
Having
worked extensively in Odia films and television, he was the favourite onscreen
‘father’ for viewers. Some of his prominent works include Pua Moro Kala
Thakura, Samay Kheluchhi Chaka Bhaunri, Ki Heba Sua Posile, Phula Chandana and
Suna Chadhei. Bose
was also a dancer and a choreographer, having received training from renowned
Odissi dancer Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. The
actor was also a theatre exponent. During his association with the regional
theatre group Diganta, Bose had also directed several plays. Bose’s
last film was 2014 Odia movie Raasta.
