One of the most difficult competitive tests in India is considered to be the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) exam. Every year, thousands of hopefuls put in extensive preparation work in an effort to land a desired post in the illustrious public services of the nation.
The Civil Service Examination 2022 results were released by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on May 23, 2023.
There are currently 933 qualifying candidates for the 2022 civil services examination, including 613 men and 320 women. There are 14 women among the top 25 applicants. The UPSC administers the civil services examination every year in three stages—preliminary, main, and interview—to choose candidates for the IAS, IPS, and IFS.
A total of 178 candidates have been put in the reserve list as well, it said.
There were 1,022 vacancies reported by the Centre to be filled through the civil services examination.
It included 180 IAS officers, 38 IFS, 200 IPS, 473 in Group A central services and 131 in Group B services, the UPSC said.
Female contenders Ishita Kishore, Garima Lohia, Uma Harathin N and Smriti Mishra are in the top four.
Ishita Kishore (UPSC 2022 Topper)
Ishita Kishore got first rank in the 2022 UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE). The 26-year young lady passed the renowned test on her third try. She failed her preliminary exam on her first two tries. She is from Uttar Pradesh and she cleared her UPSC examination by opting PSIR as her Optional.
She was a former student of Delhi University’s Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), who finished her graduate studies in 2017 with a major in economics. She was raised by a private school teacher (mother) and an Air Force officer (father). Her elder brother is a lawyer by profession. “She has opted for the Indian Administrative Service, and her top preference is the Uttar Pradesh cadre.
Garima Lohia (UPSC Topper AIR 2)
Garima Lohia, a student from Buchar, has earned the respect of Bihar by placing second in the highly competitive Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) test 2022. Garima Lohia (roll no. 1506175) received the AIR 2 and a final score of 1063.
Garima Lohia is a native of Buxar, Bihar, and was nurtured in a business family. She enjoys self-improvement podcasts, among other things. Garima enrolled at Delhi University’s Kirori Mal College, where she received a degree in accounting in 2020. She, however, was unable to pass this important test on her first try. In addition, she achieved second place on her second attempt in the 2022 UPSC test. Unfortunately, Garima’s father passed away eight years ago.
Uma Harathi N (UPSC Topper AIR 3)
Uma Harathi N, who has secured third place in the UPSC 2022, was born in a small Indian town. She pursued a profession in civil services because of her intense desire for having a positive effect.
Uma gained a solid foundation in the discipline after completing her B.Tech in civil engineering at IIT-Hyderabad.
Her optional subject of anthropology helped her pass the test. After finishing her degree, she spent six months working sporadically online at Civil Services Coaching Institute.
Uma Harathi N, a native of Telangana, placed third in the 2019 UPSC Civil Service Examinations. Telangana native Uma Harathi N graduated with a degree in civil engineering. Her narrative wouldn’t be complete without mentioning her family, who stood behind her like a rock. The superintendent of police for the Narayanpet district is currently her father. Her mother is a stay-at-home mom. Her father supports her decision to join the civil service.
Her optional subject of anthropology helped her pass the UPSC. After completing her education, she began working for the online Civil Services Coaching Institute for about six months. Later on, she spent 15 days in Japan as part of a cultural exchange programme.

Out of 933 successful candidates, 26 are from Odisha. Of them, nine found place in top 100 ranks.
