In 2020 & 2021, a good number of OSS officers have availed promotion to their higher ranks. Although the promotion of ASOs to the rank of Section Officers has been stayed by Honble High Court, but from Section Officer to Additional Secretary, promotion process is going on based on vacancies. Particularly in 2021 ( upto month of May) a total of 96 OSS officers (4-DS, 19-US, 45-DO and 28-SO) are promoted to their next ranks.
Here we will know the minimum criteria of promotion in this cadre.
ASO to SO : 8 years service as ASO
SO to DO : 3 years service as SO
DO to US : 6 years service in both SO & DO
US to DS : at least 1 year as US
DS to JS : at least 1 year as DS
JS to AS : based on merit & seniority
In coming 3 years ( upto 2024), nearly 400 OSS Officers are going to retire from service. Hence, for senior officers, there is good opportunity for promotion.
But the cadre has a vacancy of 801* posts till date. So, there is a chance of recruitment of nearly 500 ASO posts in coming years.

Nothing to feel too proud about. This is a normal process used to take place every year, unless off course there are pending court cases like the one that has been pointed out.
